A temple for “kumbabishekam,” a temple highly praised and sung by one of the 63 Nayanmars. All through the night, all types of electric bulbs and lights illumined the town. It was a pleasant sight to see the high powered watts bulbs and lights which had been fixed both on the top and bottom of the temple tower. But in the “sanctum sanctorum,” only a small oil light was burning as if in a poor man’s house. There was no effect of the oil lamp due to various electric lights powerful glow. It was like a policeman who for the sake of duty, has a rod in his hand and walks, the light was burning incandescently. On one side, it was high-decibel sounds from the mikes, and on the other side, it was powerful electric lamps. People who worshipped God rapidly moved on. Suddenly there was a power cut. The whole town came to a halt with silence. Those who were wondering had their eyes turned towards the “oil lamp” which was glowing in the sanctum sanctorum. There was no change in the oil lamp’s glow. Only the ‘maya’ electric light was off. The light in the sanctum sanctorum was attracting everybody’s attention.

Man’s state of existence is also like this incident. In this world’s stage, man will be roaming everywhere. When his lifetime nears its end, he will cry and think of God for sometime. Then, he will totally surrender himself to God. There is a spiritual light within every human being. This spiritual light, by nature, takes its seat in all human body. If we neglect that spiritual light, it will also neglect us. One fineday, when the life ends like an electric power cut, the spiritual light will be felt internally within oneself. I don’t want you also to regress to that state. Ancient yogis and siddhars divided the day into 60 “nazhigai” (a term for 24 minutes in Tamil Siddhars’ language). One day consists of 30 nazhigais and one night consists of 30 nazhigais. Therefore, 24 hours has 60 nazhigais. One nazhigai is equivalent to 24 minutes. To attain spiritual light, if you spend 24 minutes per day, you can convert love, desire, depression, etc. to excellent powers. In this process, the hidden spiritual light comes out and shines gracefully.

The vital elements, which make human beings to exist, are the body, thought and breath. These are the ones which can cause ailments and which can make one to spoil his/her life. As a small hole in a boat can completely drown it, the body, thought, and breath, due to no proper link, make human life miserable. The vital elements, body, thought and breath, if they follow the mind’s instructions, can make you attain the spiritual light within you. You may ask, body and thought can be controlled, but how to control the breath? Breathing is a spontaneous natural process and it goes on automatically. How to regulate and bring the breathing to proper order? Breathing is a natural phenomenon, but from childhood, rapid breathing and breathing through the mouth have been the habit with most people. Due to this, diseases occur. Breathing has connection with the functioning of the mind and its sensations. People who exhale air rapidly are prone to tension and they appear agitated. People who have breathing problems exhale air intermittently and they are prone to depression and mental tension. When the body is not feeling well, the thought process gets affected. If the thoughts get affected, then body and breathing get affected. Just as for an oil lamp to burn, all the three, the lamp, the wick and oil are needed, all the three, body, thought and breathing should co-ordinate so as to function properly in an interlinked manner. Then only “spiritual light” will be created and will glow brilliantly forever. This is the modus operandi adopted by Gnanis and Siddhars. Because of this only though born as an ordinary humans, they attained immortality. Even today, after leaving the body, they exist forever and live in the thoughts of humans.

To strengthen the body-asanas, to strengthen the thoughts – meditation, to regulate the breathing-pranayama, to activate the power hidden inside the body – bandhas, to clean the internal organs of dirt’s and germs – kriyas, to regulate all these processes-mudras are used. All these methods are clearly classified and practiced by the great seers. Ordinary people do not evince interest in yoga. It comes as a result of past karma as an inheritance to a family member from an ancestor. It may be a male or female. Persons with this natural tendency can rise to the highest level very early in yoga. Others can attain only by their own self-effort and perseverance. For you to attain spiritual light within you- 24 minutes (one nazhigai) yogic practices are given here. If you follow and practice a few of them also, it will elevate you to a higher consciousness. I am stating this from my 24 years of yogic experience. To succeed in this, you need to have regular practice and constant effort. For people who are in their young age, having lost their vigor, vitality and looks, and for old people, who are murmuring internally to themselves, I bless them to attain the highest status in both body and mind by heir yogic practice. This is like a refreshing tonic.
